Residents to fight mosquitoes

With the Kochi Corporation’s fogging activities aimed at curbing the mosquito menace proving to be futile.

Kochi: With the Kochi Corporation’s fogging activities aimed at curbing the mosquito menace proving to be futile, resident associations have taken up the sanitation drive themselves.

The Ernakulam district residents associations’ apex council, EDRAK, has formulated a programme where the members of over 1000 associations under it would clear stagnant water and destroy larva using salt and kerosene.

“The programme was launched in T D West today. It is done in two phases, the first upto January 24 when city areas are targeted and the second on the outskirts of the district.

The focus should be on destroying the larva rather than on fogging,” said P Rangadasaprabhu, EDRAK president. The initiative is supported by the Kerala Chamber of Commerce. The mosquito density in the city is high (82), giving rise to concerns of deadly diseases.
