Visakhapatnam: Peer pressure took the life of one more student in Vizag city. A 19-year-old girl named K. Swetha, doing first year BBM, committed suicide by jumping from the third floor of an apartment near Kirlampudi Layout on Sunday as she disliked her management course.

She wanted to join the IITs but was unsuccessful in cracking the entrance test twice. The suicide took place just a day after IIT-B PhD scholar M. Siva Teja, 26, of Hyderabad ended his life at a lodge here on Saturday.

Swetha is studying first year BBM at the Gayatri Vidya Parishad college. She was the second child of K.S. Chalam, an assistant commissioner in the commercial tax department and K Krishna Kumari, a medical staffer at the NRI hospital.

The girl jumped from the balcony of their flat at around 3 am on Sunday when her family was asleep. She died on the spot with severe head injuries. The incident came to light, only in the early hours of Sunday when one of the residents found a body lying on the ground.

SI Hari Babu said the girl was a psychiatric patient, and was under the treatment of well known psychiatry professor Dr M.S.N. Reddy of Hyderabad.

The SI said they found a suicide note in which the girl apologised to her parents, and said that she could not perform well in the presentation.

The police registered a case under Section 174 of CrPC. Swetha’s body was shifted to King George Hospital later in the day for autopsy.
