London: Google is celebrating the 82nd birthday of late American zoologist Dian Fossey with a Doodle on its search page.

The Australian Google home-page featuring a group of gorillas, with one touching Fossey's hair, while she is making notes, has been uploaded on the occasion, the Independent reports.

Fossey studied gorillas in great depth living in the mountain forests of Rwanda of Africa for over a period of 18 years, the report added.

She founded the Karisoke Research Center in Rwanda's Parc National des Volcans in 1967.

Fossey died in 1985, when she was killed in her cabin in Karisoke.

She created "the Digit Fund" to finance her anti-poaching patrols, which was later renamed "the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International" following her death, and the project still continues to protect gorillas in Africa from poaching.
