Congress bid to settle CMP row

With chief minister Oommen Chandy and KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala inviting the warring leaders.

Thiruvananthapuram: With chief minister Oommen Chandy and KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala inviting the warring leaders of CMP for talks on Wednesday, K.R. Aravindakshan and C.P. John are likely to settle the issues. Sources say that the Congress leadership has given an ultimatum to the CMP leaders that they will not be in the UDF if they don’t reconcile.

However, it is not yet confirmed whether Chandy’s current state of health would permit him to hold consultations with the CMP leaders on Wednesday. Aravindakshan told DC that the politburo meeting of CMP will be held at veteran leader M.V. Raghavan’s Kannur home on Tuesday.

“As far as I know, everyone excluding John and the suspended leader C.A. Ajeer will be attending the PB meeting. The main agenda of the meeting is to prepare ahead for the reconciliatory meeting to be held at Cliff House on Wednesday,” Aravindakshan told DC.

He added that since John is peeved with him for holding on to the post of general secretary as entrusted by MVR, he is willing to step down. This shows that Aravindakshan is keen to have a patch up with John.

“However, he should have the decency to inform the party colleagues under what stand and pretext he gave the Azhikode constituency to Muslim League and later got the Planning Board member status,” added Aravindakshan.
