Great minds at one place

The 12-day camp is ideal for senior artists to pass on their knowledge of printmaking to budding artists

Faraway from the noise of the city, a small space in Kismatpur is playing host to the greatest minds of the art world as a part of the print-making camp being organised by Banyan Hearts Studio along with ROCA (Rollers Centre for Art).

It’s a whole different atmosphere at the premises of the Banyan Hearts Studio.

The best known names of the art world, from Laxma Goud, Jyoti Bhatt, P.D. Dhumal to Chippa Sudhakar, sit alongside budding artists, passing on their knowledge of print making as a medium of art. Speaking about the event, A. Kiran Kumar from ROCA says, “Printmaking as a medium of art has been long forgotten and we wish to revive it. While we want to focus on print making, this camp is also to bring together all the artists and to meet senior artists from the city.”

The 12-day long workshop will see participants producing one work of art each in the form of etchings on zinc plates, which will be further used to reproduce 10 editions of their artwork.

Jyothi Bhatt, one of the leading artists of India, has come all the way from Baroda to be a part of the event. “I’m extremely happy that something like this workshop is taking place as it is much-needed in our country.

What is commendable is that it is the younger artists who are actually behind the camp. We are not here just so that the younger artists can learn from us but so that we can learn more from them as well.”

Print making as a medium often finds mention in the history of Hyderabad. So it is more than coincidence that the camp is being held in the city. Artist P.D. Dhumal from the Uttarayan Foundation, says, “Hyderabad is the perfect place for the event as it is home to such great artists and institutes for art and it is a great opportunity for students from all over the country to interact with them.”
