Cultural capital impresses tourists

This place is spectacular. It has all the attractions.

Thrissur: “This place is spectacular. It has all the attractions that our clients would look for and we have plans to organize tour packages and fly them here’’, said Stephen Wagner, a German tour operator.

Wagner and 39 others, including 10 travel writers from Europe, are in Thrissur as part of a week- long tour by the District Tourism Promotion Council that kicked off on January 8th. And it appears that they are impressed by the warm hospitality of the people at the cultural capital.

Titled as Thrissur Peruma-2014, the program aims to present the rich heritage of the cultural capital and its tourism potentials to the global tourists. According to DTPC officials, the initiative is a first for the district and aims to enable the tour operators to partner for a comprehensive marketing of the place.

“It is most important that the destinations must be authentic and attractions and other highlights in the areas so that tourists can stay much longer’’ said Jackson Chacko, the DTPC spokesperson.

The program comprises visiting various eco-tourism centers to the sites of historical and cultural significance, while providing a chance to savor the state’s percussion lineage. With the initiative, the DTPC wants to draw more foreign visitors to the district, which has been hovering around 5000 over the last couple of years.
