LS polls: AAP to raise Rs 100cr

Kejriwal asks honest officials to contact him through letters, texts and emails.

New Delhi: AAP founder Arvind Kejriwal, who has set up a two-member committee to look into the ground realities for contesting the Lok Sabha elections, has also asked honest officials and employees of the city government to reach out to him directly through letters, texts and emails so that they could be deployed at places where they could work to solve Delhi’s problems. The party has reportedly decided to raise donations to the tune of Rs 100 crore for the general elections.

After its stunning victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, the AAP has reportedly decided to contest a large number of seats in the Lok Sabha elections.

“A two-member committee of Sanjay Singh and Pankaj Gupta will assess how we should proceed for the general elections,” AAP leader Yogendra Yadav told reporters on Thursday.

AAP national secretary Pankaj Gupta said the party was looking at collecting about Rs 100 crore through donations for the LS polls. “Even if we have to spend Rs1 crore on one constituency, and we contest at least 100 seats, we would require Rs 100 crore. The amount could vary, depending on the number of seats we contest.” Mr Gupta said the party has received Rs 2.25 crore in donations so far.

“Former Union law minister Shanti Bhushan has already donated Rs 1 crore.” Bhushan is the father of senior AAP leader Prashant Bhushan. Yadav said the party’s 309 district committees were already preparing for the polls.
