SP men continue their goonda act

Samajwadi workers went on rampage in Gonda district, bashed up a Congress leader, strip-ped up and paraded him naked on the streets.

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav’s warning to party men that any sort of indiscipline and hooliganism would invite stern action, has apparently proved ineffective.

After Yadav’s warning, Samajwadi workers went on rampage in Gonda district, bashed up a Congress leader, strip-ped up and paraded him naked on the streets.

In Rae Bareli, Samajwadi workers attacked a group of BJP workers at the local Dalmau tehsil office. The SP workers hurled abuses, issued threats and then assaulted the BJP workers and promised to teach them a lesson.

According to police reports, a local Congress worker Ram Karan Varma had gone to a grocery shop when he was accosted by SP workers Pradeep Choubey, Sandeep Choubey and their associates. The two parties had a long standing political feud.

Choubey and his aides first chased the Congress worker who tried to seek shelter inside the shop.

“They barged into the shop, dragged me out, beat me up and then stripped me. They paraded me naked in the market and took away all the money that I was carrying. While this was going on, people downed their shutters and ran away,” he said.

On learning of the incident, Congress workers gheraoed the Mankapur police station after which the police registered a case of dacoity against Pradeep Choubey and 14 others.
