‘Phoney’ wanderlust

Sindhu Sreenath captures her travels on her phone and blogs about her trips.

She’s sitting in a meeting at work and the desire to travel suddenly kicks in, post which, she’s packing her bags and taking off to an exotic destination.

Meet the spunky and spontaneous Sindhu Sreenath, who captures her wanderlust on her phone and blogs about her escapades. This 27-year-old software engineer and national level rugby player, who calls herself the ‘phoneytraveller’, has explored diverse places across the globe.

“I started blogging six months ago. I’m a lazy person and don’t see myself carrying a DSLR all the time.”

Sindhu’s vacation spots include Indonesia, Jordan, Israel, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, Delhi and Agra. Having captured her early travels on the Xolo phone, she says, “Right now, I’m experimenting with the iPhone 4s.”

The urge to travel solo has made this nomadic lass lose herself in the beauty of many destinations. “When you’re travelling alone, be cautious and do your homework. Google has all the information you need. In Delhi, I chose to dress conservatively. When in Israel, I was told that Bethlehem belonged to Palestine and going there alone was unsafe. But I did my research online, got all the info and went ahead. The experience was gratifying as I saw The Bible come to life in front of my eyes.”

This gutsy traveller also enjoys making trips with her girlfriends. Reminiscing her best trip till date, Sindhu reveals, “I was in Israel and wanted to go to Jordan. I randomly messaged a friend in Dubai. We couldn’t even call each other, so we communicated on Facebook and met up at the airport in Jordan. We rented a car and drove around the country.”

Her blog posts range from tips for solo women travellers to a post dedicated to techies travelling to Taipei. A food connoisseur, Sindhu says that she can eat ‘anything under the sun.’

“I’ve eaten python, cobra, sea urchins, horse and frog’s legs. Next, I want to try the monkey brain in China!”

Next on her ‘to do’ list is writing phone and app reviews. “I use photo apps like Pixlr-o-matic and Color Touch. Other apps include TripAdvisor, Kayak and Agoda — these are very useful. I hope to make videos soon. I also want to visit Croatia, Ibiza, Greece, Lehand the historical sites of north Karnataka.”
