New Delhi: Jayanthi Natarajan, minister of state for environment and forests, on Saturday resigned from the Union council of ministers against the backdrop of strong indications that organisational changes in the Congress could take place “any time”.
However, Jayanthi Natarajan’s resignation has come as a surprise as the names of Union ministers Jairam Ramesh, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Sachin Pilot and Jitendra Singh returning to the organisation were doing the rounds in Congress circles.
Rahul wants young team for LS polls
According to Congress sources Rahul Gandhi’s team for the 2014 polls will be unveiled before December 28, Congress’ foundation day.
Rahul Gandhi has clearly indicated to his colleagues that youth would be involved in the organisation in large numbers in various positions.
If party insiders are to be believed, Ramesh is handling the Congress’ “war-room” on G.R.G. Road in New Delhi. He is the convener of a small group constituted to facilitate coordination of various activities related to the Lok Sabha elections 2014.
The resignation of Jayanthi Natarajan, 59, minister of state with independent charge of environment and forests, has been accepted by the President, a Rashtrapati Bhavan communiqué said.
She later said she has resigned to do party work in view of the coming Lok Sabha polls.
