Rs 22.5 crore to upgrade mysore police public school

A police constable’s son may not have to grow up to be a constable himself.

Mysore: A police constable’s son may not have to grow up to be a constable himself. Children are now being promised quality education at the police public school in Mysore, which is all set to be upgraded at a cost of Rs 22.5 crore on the same lines as a sainik public school in order to groom policemen’s children for competitive exams and other academic challenges.

The blueprint for the upgradation of the school which includes separate administrative, nursery, middle school and high school blocks, has been forwarded to the ADGP administration for approval, according to sources in the police department.

It all started in 2004 when retired ADGP Kempaiah, who himself had a difficult time getting an education, having been born into a poor family, was stationed in Mysore as IGP southern range. He succeeded in getting 26 acres of land for the school from the police department and set up a Karnataka Police Education and Welfare Trust, with just Rs 9000 to make his dream school a reality.

Then Member of Parliament, C.H. Vijashankar gave Rs 10 lakh and Kempaiah himself raised Rs 7 lakh from various entrepreneurs and the school’s foundation stone was laid in 2004. Kempaiah also donated his entire prize money for his work in the STF and persuaded 34 men on his team to donate part of theirs as well to the school, making it richer by Rs 77.50 lakh in all.

Currently, 85 per cent of the students at the CBSE affiliated school that opened its doors in 2009, are children of policemen. It offers education from LKG to Class X and besides academics, concentrates on art, music, dance, yoga, aerobics, karate and horse riding with the aim of turning out well rounded students.
