LDF to continue Cliff House siege

LDF to continue with its Cliff House siege in support of its demand for CM's resignation.

Thiruvananthapuram: Shutting its eyes to widespread criticism, the LDF state committee on Thursday decided to continue with its Cliff House siege in support of its demand for Chief Minister Oommen Chandy’s resignation in the solar fraud case.

Even though CPI and RSP leaders expressed reservations regarding the Cliff House siege and the inconvenience being caused to the local people, the CPM leaders put their foot down at the meeting at the AKG centre saying that any change in the mode of agitation at this stage would give an opportunity for the opponents to unleash a propaganda against the front.

With the CPM refusing to budge, RSP and CPI too fell in line.

The LDF leadership expressed concern over the low participation in the stir and decided to mobilise more people, including women, students and youth for the agitation in the coming days.

Earlier, inaugurating the all- women agitation at Cliff House, CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan criticised the manner in which rightist forces, including a section of media, had mounted an attack on the LDF’s agitation.

During agitations, people may have to face bullets or even go to jail. But it is because of sacrifices made in such mass agitations that people could secure many of their rights in the past.

He said the rightist forces had sharpened their attack against LDF because of the slogans and issues being raised by the front.
