Balram’s Facebook post questions ‘local holiday’

Congress MLA V.T. Balram has come out against the Government for declaring a holiday.

Thiruvananthapuram: Congress MLA V.T. Balram has come out against the Government for declaring a holiday for schools and government offices following the demise of Uthradom Thirunal Marthanda Varma. His comments were aired on facebook.

Balram’s comments read thus: “I express my condolence on the occasion of Sree Marthanda Varma’s demise. But, he was just a member of the erstwhile royal family and was not even once the ruler of Travancore. As that is the case, I don’t understand why the Government declared a public holiday… It is not right for the administrators to forget that feudalism has ended and democracy rules...”

Though he had likes and comments aplenty, a majority of them commented on his harsh words warning him that he was going to lose the next elections and that he had no right to speak so when the Congress party has been sponsoring hartals and bandhs.
