Kerala gold smuggling case: CBI quizzes model Shravya Sudhakar

Anti-corruption wing of the CBI questions model on her connection with smuggling accused T.K. Faiz.

Kochi: The anti-corruption wing of the CBI on Monday questioned model Shravya Sudhakar on her connection with the Nedumbassery gold smuggling case accused T.K. Faiz.

According to CBI sleuths, the model has confessed that she knew Faiz, but has denied being part of the smuggling operations.

Shravya, winner of South India-based beauty pageant contest in 2004, appeared before the cops on Monday afternoon after the CBI issued a notice to her. The interrogation will continue on Tuesday, the CBI sources said.

The Chennai model also spoke to the media after the questioning and confirmed that she knew Faiz. “I know Faiz well. But I did not carry out any smuggling. I will speak to the media after the CBI interrogation on Tuesday and explain my connection with Faiz,” she said.

The CBI officers had earlier received evidence for the model travelling between India and Dubai five times in month. Faiz had also called the model several times over phone, which forced the officials to question her.

“There were call record details (CDR) to establish the acquaintance between Faiz and the model. Her Gulf trips were also reportedly funded by Faiz.

Hence we summoned her to give a statement. But we have no plan to arraign her in the case,” a CBI source said. The officials said the model is cooperating with the interrogation.

However, the CBI said she would be arraigned if they get any concrete evidence about her involvement in the smuggling racket.
