CPM denies role in advertisement

It is between Deshabhimani and the person who issued the advertisement, say A.K Balan.

Thiruvananthapuram: The organising committee of CPM plenum has said it had no role in the advertisement issued by the Surya Group of controversial businessman V.M. Radhakrishan hailing the meet that appeared in Deshabhimani.

CPM state secretariat member and organising committee chairman A.K. Balan said what comrade E.P. Jayarajan had told the media was Deshabhimani’s position and not that of the party.

Balan said that the district party or the organising committee of the plenum had no connection with the advertisement.

“It is between Deshabhimani and the person who issued the advertisement,” he told reporters a day after the plenum ended in Palakkad. The party is against any tie-up with such persons, he said and added that such issues should not be allowed to tarnish the party image.

CPM fellow traveller and former MP Sebastian Paul said that the party mouthpiece should not adopt all means to generate income. The paper should not function with the sole aim of benefiting from the market, he added.

Babu M. Pallissery MLA posted a comment on the Facebook in protest against the advertisement. However, following Pinarayi's statement he retracted from his position and said it was a slip of some Deshabhimani workers.

Deshabhimani not run by CPM funds: Pinarayi Vijayan

Kochi: CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday supported the Desabhimani decision to take the advertisement of controversial industrialist V M Radhakrihsnan for saluting the party plenum. He said that Desabhimani was not a newspaper run on funds given by CPM.

He said in Perumbavoor near here that no prior permission is taken from the party by the newspaper while giving news and advertisements. “The paper finds funds for it through its own means,” he said.

The CPM state secretary said that those who are criticizing the act do it without genuine intentions.

He also asked whether there was any controversy regarding any decision taken at the plenum. He also said that the allegations against CPM leader Elamaram Kareem in the land fraud case could not be believed.

Later speaking at a civic reception in Kochi, he said the SNC-Lavalin case was an attempt to destroy the CPM and he was just a symbol in this grand game.

He said he did not feel bad when he was targeted in a vicious way by the opponents as the party stood by him.

Justice V R Krishna Iyer inaugurated the civic reception held at the Rajendra Maidan in which M K Sanu and party district secretary Dinesh Mani, film personalities Sibi Malayil, Kamal, B Unnikrishnan, Renji Panicker, Roshan Andrews and Anoop Chandran, among others, attended.
