TD develops cold feet

Silent over water scheme to Chittoor from Kandaleru.

Nellore: TD leaders suddenly became silent on the proposed water scheme to Chittoor from Kandaleru reservoir after raising a hue and cry over the scheme in the recent past.

Former minister and TD politburo member Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy had highlighted the issue in every available opportunity alleging that the scheme is meant for kickbacks to the ruling party bigwigs.

Taking cue from Chandramohan Reddy, Venkatagiri TD legislator K. Ramakrishna had organised a huge protest against the scheme along with farmers at Kandaleru reservoir itself in the second week of November and rebuked finance minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy for according sanction to the scheme.

All the TD legislators had aimed their guns on the finance minister during the protest for allowing diversion of 6.2 tmc of water to Chittoor ignoring the interests of Nellore district farmers.

The TD leaders took a dig on Ramanarayana Reddy for his indefinite fast and threat to shoot himself if water is released to Chennai from Kandaleru in 90s even though the project was funded by Tamil Nadu government.

Ramakrishna had not even raised the subject during Rachchabanda held at Dakkili in his constituency even though Ramanarayana Reddy was present in the programme.

Incidentally, Ramakrishna, resenting against the move to take water from Kandaleru reservoir to Chittoor, had squatted before the podium when the finance minister was presiding Irrigation Advisory Board meeting held in October at Nellore.

In fact Ramakrishna and the finance minister were seen in perfect harmony discussing something during Rachchabanda. It was a shock of sorts to see the minister and TD legislator sitting next to each other and exchanging pleasantries for those who were present when Ramakrishna targeted the minister without mincing any words during the protest at Kandaleru.

Not only Ramakrishna, the other TD legislators also skipped the subject when the minister took part in the Rachchabanda programmes in their constituencies during last three days.
A senior TD leader, who does’nt want to identify, lamented over the attitude of TD legislators.

When contacted, Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy said that they are moving to court on the water scheme to Chittoor from Kandaleru reservoir.
