Yeddyurappa shifts protest to Belgaum

All eyes will be on former chief minister and KJP president BSY and the stance.

Bangalore: All eyes will be on former chief minister and KJP president B.S. Yeddyurappa and the stance he will take vis-a-vis the BJP during the Belgaum session.

Yeddyurappa has already announced his support for the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi but is reportedly sore with the state leadership for not doing enough to ensure his entry into the saffron party before the Lok Sabha polls. The former CM shifted his protest on the Shaadi Bhagya issue to Belgaum on Sunday.

This will be the fourth legislature session to be held in Belgaum since 2006 when the move was initiated by the JD(S)-BJP coalition government. This was followed by the construction of Suvarna Soudha— modelled on the Vidhana Soudha, the state secretariat— by the BJP government as an assertion that Belgaum is an integral part of Karnataka. Maharashtra claims Belgaum should go to it with the Pro-Marathi MES fighting for the merger.

The Legislature will congratulate Bharat Ratna awardees Prof. C.N.R. Rao and cricketer Sachin Tendulkar on the first day. The session will also pay condolences to noted personalities who died during the term of the last legislature session, including H. Shivappa, K Yankatappa, Mahadev Katagi, Dr Puttakayanna, R K Rathod, Manna Dey and Dr Rajendra Babu.
