From IT hub to a cyclist’s dream

If the state transport minister stands by his word, then all the Traffic and Transit Management Centers.

Bangalore: If the state transport minister stands by his word, then all the Traffic and Transit Management Centers in the city will have cycle rentals.

In a first of its kind, Bangalore has started a Cycle Day campaign which started on October 27, and saw over 1,000 cyclists participating in the event.

The event aims at promoting the usage of bicycle for short distance journey and sensitising the citizens towards cyc­lists in the city. It is a monthly event and will be organised on every last Sunday of the month.

The Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT) in association with civic groups, cycling communities, Bangalore Metr­opolitan Transport Corp­oration (BMTC), Bang­­alore Metro Rail Corp­o­­ration Limited (BM­RCL) and other Cycv­e­rnment bodies are working for the ‘Free Bangalore Cycle Day.’

Speaking at the event State Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy promised all his support for encouraging cycling in the city. "”e will bring cycle rentals in TTMCs in the city, so that we can promote the habit of cycling among all the citizens,” said Reddy.

The Bangalore Metro­politan Transport Corp­oration has 10 TTMCs across the city which was built a cost of over '442 crore, and another 45 TTMC also proposed.

Pranav Jha, one of the organisers of the Cycle Day event said that the organisers will be meeting with the Transport Minister to further take his help on bringing other projects to promote cycling in the city. “We plan to further localise the Cycle day event by taking it to residential areas such as Jayanagar, Koramangala, Indir­anagar and other areas,” said Jha.
