Congress policies aimed only at winning elections: Modi in Delhi

BJP's PM candidate attacks Cong for its 'arrogance' and 'born to rule' mindset.

New Delhi: Attacking the Congress for its 'arrogance' and 'born to rule' mindset, Narendra Modi on Saturday accused the party of formulating policies aimed at only winning elections and not for the country or its future.

Addressing an election meeting in Dwarka here, ahead of December 4 Delhi assembly polls, BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate said the Congress has frequently changed its names, symbols and policies but not intentions.

"The Congress party has admitted that God has created it to rule. They think they are born to rule and people are in our pocket...Where will they go...sometimes show them the fear of Modi...and gain votes. Congress people are used to enjoying the rule...

"All its policies are aimed at winning elections and not for the nation and neither for its future. If something that has not changed in congress, it is its intention. 'Inki niyat aisi hai, uss niyat ko le kar desh ka bhala nahin ho sakta' (Their intentions are such that the nation can never benefit from it," he said.

Modi also launched an attack on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, accusing him of not uttering a single word despite the price rise that has hit the poor and common man.

"During Atal Bihari Vajpayee's regime inflation was at 3.9 per cent. Now under an economist Prime Minister, it is more than 11 per cent. If price rise continues to rise like this, what will the poor eat. The Prime Minister is not ready to take the blame for price rise," he said.

Attacking Rahul Gandhi, Modi said, "Congress's Shehzada thinks India is a beehive, we think it is our mother."

Accusing the Congress for its arrogance, Modi said even though he sought an apology for coming late for today's rally, he said the Prime minister was not ready for taking the blame over price rise.

"Unka ahankar itna hai, mehngai par ek shabd bolne ko tayar nahin hain...mehngayi ka M tak nahin bole. Maro to maro aap ka naseeb (Their arrogance is such that they are not ready to utter a single word, not even the M of Mehngayi. You die, it is your fate)," he said.

Modi also launched a scathing attack on the Sheila Dikshit government in Delhi saying while she questions him over the Gujarat model of development, she has been unable to provide even basic drinking water to residents of the capital even after 15 years of its rule.

Taking a jibe at Dikshit, he said, she along with her son and daughter-in-law can drive her Maruti car in the long pipeline drawn for providing water to 9,000 villages in Gujarat.

"Congress is a great party. It's name has changed, symbol has changed and so has its policies...Today, a dozen names exist for it in the market. "It's symbol has also changed and so have its policies - they won elections by nationalising banks. Then Narasimha Rao came and initiated the policy of reforms to win elections," he said.
