No language barrier for Janani Iyer

Janani Iyer is planning on taking a season ticket between Chennai and Kerala.

She is fast gaining ground as a Malayali pennu, considering the number of movies she is signing in Mollywood and is planning on taking a season ticket between Chennai and Kerala! Janani Iyer has been signed for Srinath Rajendran's 'Koothara' as well as 'Edison Photos', directed by Pramod Gopal.

Speaking about 'Koothara', she says, “I loved the script and though it may sound clichéd, it is a very different film. I play a Calicut Muslim girl. It is a fantasy film, but the genres are mixed, which is why it is difficult to tag it. The team is great and the first schedule shot in a Calicut college made me revisit my college days!"

While 'Edison Photos' appealed to her is because she has a full-fledged role, running throughout the film, for the first time.

Janani adds, “I play a Tulu Brahmin girl. I liked the script so much that I rescheduled my dates to accommodate this film. In the film industry, the hero always has prime screen space and a heroine is not accorded too much space but in 'Edison Photos', both the hero and the heroine have equal screen time."

She reveals that she has signed another Malayalam film, to be announced shortly, taking the tally to three films each in both Tamil and Malayalam. In Tamil, Janani has signed a two-film deal with G.V. Kumar, of which she has already finished one and also has a film titled as 'Thegedi' in her kitty. She is now waiting for the perfect launch pad in Telugu.

Working in Mollywood has its advantages, Janani says, “Every movie has a script or a story which is very real. It is easier to work here because the schedules get over fast and require a lesser number of days."

Before signing off she adds, “Working in Kerala makes me pile on the kilos thanks to the lovely food!"
