Kavuri Sambasiva Rao: Centre misled by Telangana men on division

Union govt need to consider the opinion of the people of both T and Seema regions.

Hyderabad: Union minister for textiles Kavuri Sambasiva Rao on Saturday said that some leaders from Telangana region have misled the Congress high command on the bifurcation issue which is the reason behind the Congress move in favour of bifurcating the state.

Sambasiva Rao laid the foundation stone for the revamping of Cocoon Market at a cost of Rs 3.5crore at Bapulapadu mandal near Hanuman Junction.

Speaking to reporters later, Sambasiva Rao said the Congress is proceeding fast on the bifurcation of the state. Sambasiva Rao said he was not aware if the high command was considering a roll back on the bifurcation decision.

He said that the Union government should consider the opinion of the people of both Telangana and Seemandhra regions before taking the decision.

He said that majority of the people want Hyderabad to be made a Union Territory. He said granting statehood to Telangana would give rise to similar demands across the country, which may be a threat to the nation’s integrity.

The minister said the state developed Hyderabad alone in the past few decades in the fields of IT, education, pharmacy, film industry and other aspects.

He said Seemandhra people have also contributed to the development of Hyderabad and have equal rights.

He said Telangana people have already started demanding for Bhadrachalam and are threatening to stop Polavaram project even before the state is divided.

To protect the rights of both regions and not give way to conflicts between people of Seemandhra and Telangana, Hyderabad should be made a Union Territory, he added.

Sambasiva Rao said that resignations will not stop bifurcation now. However, he said that he is ready to quit as minister if the process could be stopped with resignations.
