Minister assures detailed probe

Union tourism minister, K Chiranjeevi said the government had taken Thursday.

Bengaluru: Union tourism minister, K Chiranjeevi said the government had taken Thursday’s bus mishap very seriously and was investigating it thoroughly as this was the second such accident in the last two weeks.

Chiranjeevi, who was in the city visiting the family of Venkatesh Babu (50), one of the 45 charred to death in the October 30 Volvo bus accident in Andhra Pradesh, said it was shocking that a similar accident had taken place in a mere two weeks.

“This is the second multi-axle Volvo bus to have burst into flames in less than two weeks. While the Andhra Pradesh police is investigating the Mahbubnagar incident, the Centre has instructed all states to crack down on travel agencies that ply buses without permits,” he told reporters.

Consoling Venkatesh’s grieving family, the actor-turned-politician said his family was acquainted with him for the last 20 years. “ He was very close to us and would always support us by attending every programme we hosted. My family and I will do everything in our power to provide medical and financial assistance to his family. We will ensure they are given all necessary help,” he promised.
