Sops to Congress rescue

Leaders hope packages will placate people, save party.

Vijayawada: While a majority of the leaders are losing hopes over their political future, Congress leaders are hoping that any special package and allocations to the residual state of Andhra Pradesh may give the party, and their political future, a boost.

Every day, rumours, major projects or packages would be allocated to the region, are doing rounds among the public, even as opposition to the proposed bifurcation runs deep.

It is no secret that the rank and file of the Krishna district Congress is dismayed by the bifurcation decision taken by the UPA government. A majority of the Congress leaders are keenly watching the developments and also Chief Minister’s role before they switch over to other political parties.

“The Congress leaders hope that the people will support the party if the UPA government allocates sufficient funds and major projects to the region,” said political analyst Anjaneyulu. He said that future developments could not be predicted at this stage.

City Congress president?Meesala Rajeswara Rao said that if Vijayawada city is made capital of the residuary state, it would see major developments and this would benefit the Congress in the future.

“If one takes into account the attempts by Union minister of state D. Purandeswari to contest from Vijayawada, we can assume that the local Congress leadership has not lost all hopes,” said another analyst Das.

Senior Congress leader and former minister Mandali Buddha Prasad had recently said that anything could happen in the future and the party may regain its strength. However, he hastened to clarify that he was opposed to the Telugu people being divided.

It is learnt that senior politician Devineni Nehru is putting his plans to switch over to the YSR Congress, keeping in mind his son Avinash’s political future, on hold, as he is observing the developments relating to allocations.

Similarly, most of the other Congress leaders are holding on to their plans, hoping that the allocations and packages may decide their future.
