Siddharth Menon has never been trained in music. He grew up in Mumbai with his Malayali parents, attending competitions and youth festivals and winning prizes for music. All he has to show is the few days he attended the Ajivasan Music Academy in Mumbai. But that never dampened his passion for singing. He connected with his musician cousin Govind P. Menon in Kerala and together they roped in 13 people to come together on stage and form a band called 'Thaikkudam Bridge'..
“Initially, Govind chettan and I only planned to do a Rahman medley and make a video of it. But then we got an opportunity to do a show for Kappa TV’s Music Mojo. I brought with me musicians I knew from a reality show that I had participated in — called X Factor — judged by the likes of Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal, we had become finalists in the show. Govind chettan pulled in his friends from Kerala and we played as Thaikkudam Bridge,” says Siddharth. His rendition of Manthara Cheppundo... for their Nostalgia segment and Rahman medley got quite a lot of views on YouTube.
Govind then went on to do the music for North 24 Kaatham and called his cousin to sing Tharangal.... “After that, I have sung for two more Malayalam films. Now I am about to sing a Tamil duet,” says Siddharth, who has also enrolled for a course in western classical music at the AR Rahman’s KM College of Music and Technology in Chennai. And what’s more? Thaikkudam show has also won him offers to model!
“Maybe I will do it, but first priority will always be music,” says a cheerful Siddharth.
