Anantapur: Following a bandh call given by the Samaikyandhra JAC opposing the division of state, schools and colleges in the district remained closed on Thursday.
The activists of JAC took out rallies at all mandal headquarters demanding to the Centre to maintain status quo.
Large number of students and employees laid siege to Hindupur MP Nimmala Kristappa's residence at Gorantla demanding his resignation.
Speaking to the protestors, Nimmala Kristappa said that he would quit his elected post immediately if the Centre announces separate Telangana state.
“I had raised the Samaikyandhra issue during parliament session where YSRC president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy had also joined me,” he recalled and extended his support for the activists.
Samaikyandhra JAC Seema convener G. Nagaraju said Rayalaseema was already reeling under severe drought conditions. “In view of the proposal of T-state, backward areas of Rayalaseema have to face additional problems,” he said.
Samaikyandhra JAC activists organised homam at Sapthagiri circle against proposal of Telangana state.
Teachers boycotted schools and took out a rally at Raju Road in Anantapur extending support to the movement. JAC leader Karanam Harikrishna demanded the representatives to quit their posts.
The region would badly hit, as a large number of educated youth would be denied employment if state is divided.
Advocates were continued their protest at Kurnool and Anantapur by boycotting courts on second day.
Members of Kurnool Bar Association and Anantapur Bar Associations took out rallies in protest against proposals of separate Telangana state.
Kurnool TD president Somisetty Venkateswarlu alleged that Congress MP Lagadapati Rajagopal was trying to get political mileage by obstructing TD president N. Chandrababu Naidu's padayatra.
“Instead of staging a protest at Sonia Gandhi’s house demanding her stand on Samaikyandhra, Rajagopal was protesting at TD chief N Chandrababu Naidu in the state", he said.
He added that the Centre could only take a decision on the burning issue.
