Visakhapatnam: Sabbavaram police on Tuesday arrested one person and seized three roosters when they broke up a cockfighting match at Gangavaram area of Sabbavaram in the district.
Following a tip-off, police raided a village. Police sources said that people gathered at a place near Gangavaram to participate in the cock-fight. The gathering fled when police reached the spot, but one T. Appa Rao was caught by cops.
Sub-Inspector of Sabbavaram police station, P. Paidaiah said that special teams have been formed to prevent the cockfights during the local festivals in and around Sabbavaram and the raids would continue in some more places in Sabbavaram as they got reliable information. Cops warned against conducting cockfights.
