Thiruvananthapuram: The first director board meeting of the Kerala Monorail Corporation takes place on Tuesday, with its 49 per cent stake set aside for Kerala Road Fund Board (KRFB) and the remaining (51) for the state government.
KRFB CEO P.C. Harikesh gets additional charge as managing director of KMC.
Though the first meeting would be a formal one, the second meeting scheduled for mid January is likely to appoint DMRC chief adviser E. Sreedharan as a board member.
The UDF government plans to assign KMC the works of the Kozhikode Monorail and the Thiruvananthapuram Monorail, to be completed in a time-bound manner under Public Private Partnership (PPP). “Tuesday’s meeting will discuss statutory matters only. In the second meeting, business matters would be decided,” Harikesh told DC.
Currently, chief minister Oommen Chandy and PWD minister V.K. Ebrahim Kunju serve as chairman and vice-chairman of KMC. DMRC would be working as a turnkey consultant to the two monorail projects.
An official source told DC the government is keen to have Sreedharan’s cooperation in the projects, so as to utilize his rich experience in planning and executing metro projects.
Currently, process is on to accord administrative sanction for the Detailed Project Report (DPR) on Thiruvananthapuram Monorail, which was presented before the government on Dec. 11 by Sreedharan.
