It was after Class XII that Ashith R. began to put on weight. He was home for a while because of a football injury and he gorged in all the food his mom made and in a matter of months, had become overweight. People started teasing him, calling him thadiya (fatso). “It used to hurt at first, but then I got used to it. I stopped caring,” he says.
Over the years, there have been many occasions when Ashith had chosen to withdraw to the back of crowds ‘because you are never a start in a huge gathering’. Life has often been cruel to this 24-year-old carrying a weight of 115 kilograms, and its agonies.
So it came as a pleasant surprise to Ashith when for once, he could be a star. It was an announcement on the Facebook page of the upcoming film Da Thadiya.
As a token of love to our SUPER SIZED friends all over Kerala, all of you who weigh over 100 KGs get a free ticket for the FIRST DAY FIRST SHOW of Da Thadiya. All you have to do is walk into the cinemas, get on our weighing machines and prove how BIG you are. If you are above 100 KGs, you get a ticket for free.
“The hero of the film weighs 135 kg. Oversized people never get preference anywhere, so we thought of this idea, in tie up with major cinemas. The multiplexes are however excluded,” says Ashiq Abu, director of the film.
